ABOUT BEX

Bex Wright is a writer and illustrator with a passion for stories.

After completing her degree in Illustration with Animation, she opened a bookshop and design studio called Firecatcher with fellow bibliophile and illustrator, Sam Tickner. Together they built up an extensive client list, including the NHS, CBBC, Polity Press, Carcanet, Little, Brown books, and many more. The company also won the Creative Industries Network Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Illustration and Design’ for their murals in Royal Derby Hospital Children’s Emergency Department.

She has created user interface designs for corporate customers, maps for festivals, education packs for international photography exhibitions and drawings of champagne tents for Christmas markets. She also wrote and illustrated two non-fiction books for Little, Brown: Make and Mend, and Sweets and Treats to Give Away.

In 2017, Bex decided to tread a new path and works as a freelance writer and illustrator. She works with a range of media, including ink, watercolour and digital collage to create illustrations for all ages. This website shows her own work, some for books, some for clients, some for herself, but always done with a story in mind.
